Bryan Fernández
is a Washington Heights born Dominican multidisciplinary artist whose work focuses on the Dominican/Afro-Latinx Diaspora. Growing up as a second-generation Dominican American in New York, much of his work revolves around his day to day experience in the Afro-Caribbean community. The pieces touch upon gentrification, the effects of colonization, and capture moments of ordinary life; his work provides a voice to an overlooked community in mainstream media. To accomplish this, Bryan uses various mediums, for example, cardboard and canvas. He adds materials from his own environment, such as aluminum foil, fabrics, and food on large-scale assemblage pieces. His imagery reflects Dominican/ Afro-Latinx culture in a multitude of ways. Bryan currently attends the School of Visual Arts, where he works towards a BFA in fine arts. He resides in Washington Heights, NY.
