PJ HARPER
(b. Glasgow, Scotland) Harpers’s creative journey is a mesmerizing exploration of texture and the human form, expressed through a diverse array of mediums including sculptures, canvas paintings, photography, and digital illustrations. As the offspring of a mother with Black Caribbean heritage and a Scottish father, Harper's artistic mission is to exalt the entire Black body. His inspiration is deeply rooted in his family, with a special emphasis on his grandfather, Paul Wynter, who made history as Britain's second successful Black bodybuilder, earning prestigious Mr. Universe titles.
Incorporating a rich tapestry of content, Harper's practice becomes a conduit for sharing familial experiences and shedding light on his own dual heritage within the broader dialogues on race and identity. His work is a synthesis of Afro-futurist imagination and Classical Greek imagery, creating a bridge between tradition and innovation. He has been featured in Art in America and PAPER Magazine.
